Not too much to say about water other than we use very little of it in our bars. The average bottle of shampoo contains 75-90% water, that's a lot of water to transport around the country only to rinse away in the shower. We save a considerable amount of water by using roughly a tenth of the amount of water compared to a liquid shampoo. Less water also means less volume which translates into fewer transport lorries on the road.

Benzyl benzoate is a naturally occurring molecule found in some plants. It’s as a scent fixer to ensure our gorgeous scent stays in the bar for a long time, meaning you get great smelling hair wash after wash. It is readily biodegradable and has not been tested on animals. Benzyl benzoate is however an allergen. If you know that you are allergic to benzyl benzoate, please don’t use our bars that contain this ingredient. (Check the ingredients in bold on your packet).

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a plant derived conditioning ingredient that helps detangle the knots from your hair. It's also an emulsifier, which means that it helps to blend together some of our ingredients that might not mix so well. Ours is made from rapeseed oil and, like all our ingredients, is not tested on animals.

This wonderful ingredient is derived solely from bio-fermentation of plant materials using sustainable, green chemistry. It is a conditioning agent, which helps give your hair beautiful shine and fluidity. It is 100% natural, ECOCERT approved, compliant with COSMOS, NaTrue, and NPA standards, readily biodegradable, non-toxic to Aquatic Organics, non-GMO, and has not been tested on animals.

Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols derived from plant sources. It is readily biodegradable and we use it in our bars as an emulsifier. The fatty alcohols also help to create a good consistency in our bars helping retain that all important moisture!

Coconut oil is an amazing source of medium chain fatty acids, the very fatty acids have a high affinity for hair proteins. This allows the coconut oil to be easily absorbed into the hair shaft, strengthening it by preventing protein loss. Hair is at its most vulnerable when wet and the presence of coconut oil can help prevent the cuticles of the hair from rising up and absorbing excessive amounts of water. Coconut oil is completely biodegradable.

This wonderful humectant is found in many cosmetics and is usually produced as a bi-product from plant oils (ours uses derivatives from RSPO palm oil and palm kernel). Glycerin helps moisturise, replenish and condition your hair. Like all our ingredients it has not been tested on animals. It is GMO free and readily biodegradable.

Hexyl Cinnimal is added to some of our scents to make them smell as amazing as they do. Hexyl cinnimal is found in chamomile oil or can be synthetically derived. Hexyl cinnimal is however an allergen and can cause a reaction in people who are allergic to it. If you know that you are allergic to hexyl cinnimal, please don’t use our bars that contain this ingredient. (All ingredients are listed on our packaging and allergens are listed in bold).

Our hydrogenated vegetable oil is made from a combination of sunflower and rapeseed oil. It softens the skin and hair leaving it manageable and conditioned. Hydrogenation of these natural oils preserves them while maintaining their effectiveness. Hydrogenated vegetable oil in our shampoo bars ensures good hydration of the hair, it is completely biodegradable and not tested on animals.

A plant based peptide solution made by enzymatic hydrolysis of lupine proteins. This gorgeous extract helps to soften and moisturise the hair as well as strengthen and protect each strand. Test have shown the addition of Hydrolysed Lupine Seed Extract increases the strength of hair, including bleached and chemically treated hair.

Lactic acid is created via the fermentation of sugars. We use it to balance the pH of your shampoo. A pH balanced shampoo is important, if your shampoo is too alkaline it may increase the negative electrical charge of the hair fiber surface, increasing friction between the fibers leading to cuticle damage and fiber breakage. That is why we make sure that the pH of our bars is scalp and hair friendly with a pH between 5- 5.5

Linalool is a fragrance ingredient found naturally in many herbs and plants. It is contained in some of our essential oils rather than added separately as its own ingredient. It is readily biodegradable and has not been tested on animals. Linalool is however an allergen. If you know that you are allergic to linalool, please don’t use our bars that contain this ingredient. We love this oil so much we have added it to all our conditioner bars. Packed full of flavonoids, antioxidants, and the right balance of essential fatty acids (including omega 6 linoleic acid and omega 7) this oil gives the perfect combination to support, smooth and moisturize your hair leaving it looking healthy and shiny. As it is a nut, it is also an allergen. Please do not use if you have a nut allergy.

Herbalists have long recommended oats for a number of skin conditions. Containing phyochemicals and avenanthramides oats have been proven to reduce inflammation and scratching. Feedback from a lot of beard wearers is that beards can be itchy, so we thought that some added oats would help contribute towards a smooth, non itchy beard.

Our fragrance is a complex mixture of both natural and synthetic oils, it’s biodegradable and vegan. Polyglyceral-4-laurate is naturally derived from lauric acid sourced from sunflower oil, castor oil, rapeseed oil and palm kernel oil (RSPO). It is an emulsifier, ensuring the ingredients in our bars combine effectively. Although the name sounds a bit unnatural, it actually has natural origins. In breaking down the name we get: many (poly), glycerin (glyceryl), lauric acid (laurate) - which is the same as saying many glycerin molecules joined together with plant-based fatty acids.

This cutting edge 100% bio-based, environmentally friendly additive has been proven to be as effective on dandruff when compared to the more conventional dandruff treatments. This novel molecule combines effectiveness and a smart mode of action: activated on the scalp by Malassezia enzymes, it's activity being directly triggered by the dandruff causing micro-organism itself. It has also been shown to help contribute towards a healthy scalp microbiome!

We are proud to say that we are the only shampoo bar that contains bio-fermented surfactants (cleansers). Studies have shown that bio-surfactants, like this one, help support the scalp’s microbiome. The green technology works by fermenting rapeseed oil with sugar cane and yeast making a sustainable surfactant with a circular economy. The bi-products of fermentation are yeast cells (which go to animal feed), water and CO2 (reabsorbed by next year's crop).

This lovely gentle surfactant is made from coconut and palm oil (RSPO). This is one of our key foaming ingredients and produces a rich, bubbly lather without the drying effects of harsher surfactants such as SLS or SLeS - in other words it’s sulphate free. The manufacturing process produces no hazardous or environmentally threatening biproducts. It is completely biodegradable and has not been tested on animals. There is no soap in this or any of our products.

Because of it‘s wonderful molecular structure as well as being rich in both Vitamin A and Vitamin E, Grape Seed Oil is widely used in cosmetics. Grapeseed oil contains antioxidants along with omega 6 fatty acids that have been shown to boost hair growth. Omega 6 fatty acids also provide a soothing and healing effect on the scalp, while key ingredients such as linoleic acid, polyphenols, OPCS and vitamin E stimulate circulation, improve elasticity and repair collagen.

Purifying and anti-bacterial, Zinc PCA (also known as Zinc Salt) helps to rebalance the scalp and regulate sebum production, perfect for people with oily hair.
